Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Burger Blocker (“we,” “us,” “our”), an app operated by Anthony Labs LLC, collects, uses, and protects information when you use the app. We wrote it in plain language, and we wrote it to match how the app actually works. The current version always lives at burgerblocker.com/privacy.
1. What Burger Blocker Does
Burger Blocker helps you break bad food habits. You save the restaurants and grocery stores that tempt you, and the app watches for those places using your phone’s location — including in the background. When you arrive at or approach a saved place, Burger Blocker nudges you with the reminder you chose: a phone notification, a text message, or a phone call, usually carrying a “Plan B” you wrote in advance.
To do that, the app needs your location and a verified phone number. This policy explains exactly what that involves and what leaves your device.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what’s needed to run the service.
2.1 Your phone number
- When you sign up, you verify a U.S. mobile number with a one-time code sent by SMS.
- Your verified number is used as your account identifier. It is not stored in plain text alongside your other app data.
- Our servers read your number only when sending you a text or call you’ve set up — the app never lets one user send a message or call to a number they typed in.
2.2 Your profile
- An optional first name. If you provide one, it’s used only to personalize the greeting in your reminder texts and calls (for example, “Hey Alex…”).
- Basic account settings, such as when you finished onboarding and your saved-place limit.
2.3 The places you save
For each restaurant or grocery store you save as a trigger, we store:
- Its name and address
- Its map coordinates (latitude and longitude), which power the geofence
- Its category (restaurant or grocery)
- Your personal “Plan B” reminder text, if you write one
- Your alert preference for that place (notification, text, or call) and whether it’s enabled
2.4 Location information
Location is the engine of the app, so we want to be especially clear about it:
- With your permission, Burger Blocker uses your device location — including in the background — to detect when you reach or get near a place you’ve saved.
- Your location is processed on your device and is not continuously sent to us. The app does not record a history of everywhere you go; it watches for your saved trigger zones and stays quiet otherwise.
- Your location leaves your device in only two narrow cases: (a) when you search for places to add, an approximate (rounded) location is sent with your search to bias results to your area; and (b) if you turn on the optional diagnostic logging described below.
- You can revoke location access anytime in your device Settings. The core feature stops working without it.
2.5 Optional diagnostic logs
- The app includes an “Enable logging” switch that is off by default. If you turn it on, the app records geofence diagnostic events — which can include rounded coordinates, speed, distance from the place, and timestamps — and uploads them so we can investigate missed or late alerts.
- You can turn this off at any time, and you can ask us to delete these logs.
2.6 App diagnostics and crash data
- We collect technical diagnostic and crash information — such as error reports, device type and operating-system version, and basic app-performance data — to keep the app stable and fix problems.
- This is used for reliability and is not used to build advertising or behavioral profiles.
2.7 Subscription information
- Burger Blocker may offer a paid subscription. Any purchase is made and billed through the app store on your device, which handles your payment.
- We do not receive or store your credit-card or payment-card details. We receive only your subscription status (for example, active or expired) so we can unlock paid features.
2.8 What we do not collect
- No advertising or behavioral profiles, and no ad-tracking.
- No continuous location-history tracking.
- No data from or about children.
- We do not sell your personal information.
3. Text Messages and Phone Calls
Reaching you by text or call is a core feature, so here is exactly how it works.
3.1 When we contact you
- Saved-place alerts. When you arrive at or approach a place you set to “Text” or “Call,” our servers send that one alert to your verified number.
- Verification and test messages. A one-time code during sign-up, and an optional test text or test call so you can confirm messages reach you.
3.2 What the messages contain
- A greeting (your first name, if you provided one), the name of the place you’re near, and the “Plan B” reminder text for that place — or a sensible default if you didn’t write one.
- Voice-call audio is generated from that same text using text-to-speech. Calls and texts are strictly transactional reminders you set up — never marketing.
3.3 Consent, frequency, and opting out
- Before you add your number, the app shows a clear disclosure that you agree to receive alerts, with links to this Policy and our Terms.
- You choose, per place, whether to be alerted by notification, text, or call — and you can change it or disable any place at any time.
- To stop messages, switch a place to notification-only, disable it, or remove it. You can also reply STOP to a text per your carrier’s standard handling.
- We apply per-account rate limits to prevent excessive messaging. Standard message-and-data rates from your carrier may apply, and message or call delivery is not guaranteed (see our Terms of Service).
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information only to operate and improve the service, including to:
- Detect when you reach a saved place and send the notification, text, or call you set up
- Deliver your reminders to your verified number and personalize the greeting
- Let you search for and save nearby places
- Keep the geofencing engine accurate and troubleshoot missed or late alerts
- Provide and unlock any paid features you subscribe to
- Prevent abuse (for example, enforcing rate limits) and provide support
5. How Your Information Is Shared
We share information only with the service providers that make the app work. They process it on our behalf, under contract, and are not permitted to use it for their own marketing. We do not sell your personal information. The categories of providers we use are:
- A communications provider that verifies your phone number and delivers your text and call alerts. It receives your phone number and the contents of the message or call (greeting, place name, and your plan text).
- A text-to-speech service that generates the spoken audio for voice calls. It receives the text to be spoken.
- A maps and places service that powers the “scan the area” search for nearby restaurants and stores. It receives your search and an approximate location to return relevant results. We do not keep a history of your searches.
- A cloud hosting and database provider that runs our sign-in, server logic, and storage of your account, saved places, and any diagnostic logs.
- A diagnostics and crash-reporting provider that helps us detect and fix stability problems.
- The app store on your device, which processes any subscription purchase and your payment.
Credentials for these services are kept on our servers and are never shipped inside the app. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety and integrity of the service.
6. How Long We Keep Data
- Account data, your profile, and your saved places: kept while your account is active, until you delete them or close your account.
- Diagnostic geofence logs (if you enabled logging): kept until you turn logging off and ask us to delete them, or you delete your account.
- Crash and diagnostic data: kept for a limited period to investigate and fix problems.
- Records held by our service providers (such as message-delivery or billing records) are retained under their own standard practices and applicable law.
You can request deletion of your data at any time. Some records may need to be retained for legal reasons, and we’ll tell you what can and cannot be removed.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including encrypted connections, secure phone-based authentication, per-user access rules on our database, and storing service credentials securely rather than in the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we’re committed to keeping your information safe.
8. Your Choices and Rights
You can:
- Edit or delete any saved place, and add or change your first name, at any time
- Choose notification, text, or call per place — or disable a place entirely
- Turn diagnostic logging on or off
- Manage or cancel a subscription in your device’s app-store settings
- Revoke location, notification, or other permissions in your device Settings
- Delete your account and associated data, or request deletion of your logs
Your verified phone number is your account identifier, so reinstalling the app and verifying the same number signs you back into your existing account. To make a privacy request, contact us at hello@burgerblocker.com.
9. Children
Burger Blocker is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
10. International Use
Burger Blocker is designed for users in the United States, and our systems operate in the U.S. If you use it from another country, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll post the updated policy at burgerblocker.com/privacy and update the “Effective Date” above. For significant changes, we’ll make a reasonable effort to notify users.
